I imagine you are thinking “how can Kurt Shafer suddenly have the highest performance fans in the world?”

Here is how – In 2015 I was looking for a duct supplier in Australia to fill an order I got there for a whole house fan. I found CSR Edmonds in North Ryde near Sydney. Edmonds not only has good ducts but they also had the best rooftop in the world – their Hurricane gravity vent and their ECOPower hybrid vent. When I asked for a price for ducts, their export sales manager, Alan Ramsay, called me to ask what I was doing. I explained I was an expert in building ventilation and sold a fan to an Australian for whom I needed parts sourced in Australia. He told me he was looking for a person in the US to be his distributor for this market. I told him I would like to be that person.

He flew over in May 2015 and we agreed to work together. As his distributor I learned that his ECOPower design was optimised for free gravity air flow and used the turbine rain hat to run under motor power when motorized air flow is needed. I learned that the performance was limited to small static pressures. I asked him to add a propeller to make it pull more air. He said the engineers were adamant that a propeller not be added.

So in 2016 I improved on their design by adding a propeller. First I got permission from Alan Ramsay to use their Hurricane turbine design on my fans made in America. He told me there was no restriction on it so I was free to use it but he asked that I not call mine a Hurricane. So I called mine a Tornado.

The result is a fan that offers the best free gravity air flow PLUS the best motorized air flow hence the term HYBRID. And the performance of the design is the best one can hope to achieve. Below are the test results that prove it.
