INVISCO WHOLE HOUSE FAN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

All systems are designed to be mounted up in the attic and hung from the rafters for quiet operation. All systems come with flexible ducts for connecting the fan enclosure to one or more rooms. All systems come with ceiling mounted gravity operated dampers (also available as motorized dampers if you are concerned about windy days)  to fully isolate the room from the system in the attic. Removable magnet mounted round frames and grilles are supplied.

ATTACH FAN TO RAFTERS -

The 18 inch fan has a metal frame that is hung vertically with 2 straps. The back has an 18 inch duct ring.

The larger belt driven units have the fan blade and motor  mounted on a frame that can be lifted up through attic entrances that are  about 18 by 18 inches or larger. The assembly comes with 3 eye bolts for chains to hang from your rafters.  The  fan is designed to be hung in a horizontal position blowing up. Be sure the distance from the fan to the rafters is about a fan diameter if possible.

INSTALL THE VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL

The systems all come with a dial faced speed control. The 18 inch fan  uses two wires. Mount it in a standard wall switch type box in a hall or closet and wire it up into the attic to an AC outlet. Then either plug in the motor or use the RF remote in between.

INSTALL DAMPER

Cut a hole in the ceiling of the  room that will be cooled. Diameter to match damper diameter.

FOR 24 INCH CENTER JOISTS

If you are installing this in 24 inch center to center joists, the damper will have 3-4 brackets with steel bolt heads facing down. The brackets are there  to keep the damper above the ceiling. The bolts are there to drop through slots you cut in the ceiling so the bolts mate with strong magnets embedded in the wood frame below. In the picture below you will see that there are brackets with bolts. The frame has magnets that mate with the bolt heads. Turn the bolts so that the heads are just below the ceiling surface so the frame is flush with the ceiling.

FOR 16 INCH CENTER JOISTS

You will need to install 3 or 4 bolts in the ceiling material instead of the damper since the damper will be mounted up on the plywood sheet. Position the bolt heads inset 1/8 inch so the magnets can attach with the frame flush.

INSTALL FRAME AND GRILLE  - Position the  round wood frame under ceiling hole with the magnets contacting the bolt heads.

INSTALL THE DUCT

Install the flexible duct from the fan collector box  to the dampers. Use tie wraps to hold duct and then tape the duct to hold it in place.  Install the duct stretched tight to minimize internal air friction. Use straps to hold it at bends.

TEST

Test the system with all home doors and windows closed except for one window (be sure fireplace is closed off). Open a 2 foot high window 6 inches and  turn on the fan. The wind through the window should be a stiff breeze. (the air speed through one square foot is 36 miles per hour when using a 3620 CFM fan).

SOME EXAMPLES

The picture below shows an 18 inch fan hanging from rafters using the included steel straps. An 18 inch duct is connected to an 18 inch duct connector on the inlet side of the fan. The fan blows to the right.

The second picture shows a  36 inch direct drive fan blowing to the left and pulling air through the 4 duct connectors on the back panel. This design is one option. The other option is to have the 4 18 inch duct connectors on the sides rather than the back.
